Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Bring a full ski outfit (gloves, beanie, sunglasses) ⛷️. How the activity works

1

Gear up and meet the horses

Meet your state-certified instructor at La Féclaz 15 minutes before the start. Put on your ski boots, get your gear sorted, then head to the ring to meet and prepare the horses with your guide — a hands-on connection with the animals before you set off.
2

Briefing and first sensations

Your instructor runs you through the basics of ski joering: how to hold the reins, find the right position, communicate with the horse and manage its speed. The first strides are gentle, giving you time to get used to the feeling of being pulled.
3

Trail ride and exercises on the slopes

This is the heart of the experience! You ride across 2 km of groomed trails with your horse or pony. Three trail circuits are available depending on the group's level and preferences. For the more adventurous, speed and technique exercises are offered on the work ring.
4

Return and end of session

Back at the starting point by around 12pm. Return your gear and walk the horses back with your instructor — a final moment of connection before heading off with memories that will last long after the snow melts!

FAQ

What exactly is ski joering?

Ski joering is a Nordic discipline where the skier is pulled by a horse using reins. Standing on skis, the participant is drawn along snow-covered trails by the animal, modulating speed and direction. It's a unique blend of sport, nature and connection with horses — truly unforgettable!

What skiing level is required?

You only need to be able to ski a blue run to take part in this initiation. No expert skiing required — the key is to feel comfortable on skis and be able to maintain basic balance on flat or gently undulating terrain.

Do I need experience with horses?

No equestrian experience is needed at all! Your state-certified instructor guides you through every step of working with the horse from the very start of the session, teaching you how to communicate safely with the animal at your own pace.

How long does the half-day last in total?

The half-day runs from approximately 9am to 12pm — 3 hours in total. The actual ski joering practice time on the trails is 1 hour over 2 km of groomed slopes. The remaining time covers the welcome, horse preparation, briefing and return.

Where does the activity take place and how do I get there?

The activity takes place at La Féclaz in the Bauges massif, Savoie. Transport to the site is not included. La Féclaz is accessible by car from Annecy in approximately 40 minutes. In winter, a vehicle fitted with snow tyres or chains is essential.

Are there any physical restrictions?

Participants must be mobile and able to sit down and stand up independently. The activity is not recommended for pregnant women. Good general physical fitness is advised to fully enjoy the session.

What happens if I'm late?

It is essential to arrive 15 minutes before the stated start time. Any late arrival results in the loss of the booking without refund — sessions are timed and the horses' schedule cannot accommodate delays. Plan your journey carefully, especially in winter driving conditions.

Can I offer this as a gift?

It's the perfect gift for a horse lover, a fan of unusual winter sports or anyone who wants to experience something truly unique this winter! Gift vouchers are available directly on our website, with instant email delivery in just a few clicks.
